Havanese Fanciers Specialty 2008

2008 Havanese Fanciers Specialty (Logo)

Havanese Fanciers of Canada National Specialty - Nov 1, 2008.
First and foremost, I would like to congratulate all of the people for attending our National Specialty and showing off their beautiful Havanese. We had people in attendance who live just 10 minutes from the show site, and others who came from as far as England. A National Specialty is not a Specialty without the people showing up to show off their dogs and supporting the National Breed club. It made me proud to see so many beautiful dogs in the show ring. Everyone that attended should all be proud of their dogs and their achievements. The best part of owning a Havanese is the fact that they give us the unconditional love we all want.

At our Specialty weekend , as an ice breaker and to get things started off, we held a Pizza Party on the Thursday night. Many people from the show attended, and we all managed to meet old and new friends. We all had a good time and ate lots of pizza and chatted about our wonderful dogs. A good time was had by all.

On the Friday Night, Oct 31, 2008 was our Halloween Party and Meet and Greet. It was so much fun to see everyone dress their dogs up as well as many people came out and dressed up for the event. I know I was really hot in my doggie costume, other than the docked tail I could have been a Havanese! We had dogs dressed from Pixies, to fairies, to pumpkins and cats. There were devils, bees, princesses, and witches. Our Judge for the contest, Mary Bateman, could not pick one that was outstanding as all the costumes were amazing. Human and doggie! We were a bunch to see parading in the hotel lobby! We had many hotel guests and staff giggling for a long time. I know I still laugh out loud thinking about how we all looked. We even had a human sales rack. She was dressed up as a sales rack with toys, balls, ornaments, and nobody was allowed to leave the party until they purchased something from the Sales Rack. I do think she was the hit of the party. I know many people were amazed at how many toys were pinned to her and did buy a toy or two to take the weight off her!

Saturday was the day of the specialty. Even though the show was indoors, we all appreciated the lovely fall day we had. We had almost 100 entries among regular and non-regular classes and sweepstakes, The main event had 62 Havanese entered. What a lovely bunch of dogs. In the breed ring, 21 outstanding Havanese shared the ring. It was quite a sight to see. Our specialty judge Larry Kereluke certainly had his work cut out for him to make a choice.

A huge congratulations to all the winners of our National Specialty, this should keep you all on cloud nine for a long time. It's something to see so many dogs but something else to place in either your class or to win the entire specialty. You should all be so proud. A special congratulations to the Best of Breed Winner , Cheryl Drake's beautiful "CH Ashstone's Magical Mandy" (handled by Norm Fargo). This was Mandy's last show weekend before retiring and she went out with a bang. See all the specialty results below.

On Nov 1, 2008, at the end of our Specialty, there was a casual dinner with those that could attend. We enjoyed relaxing and chatting about how the specialty went as well as making new friends and talking about our dogs and life living with them. I think we were all so relaxed and had such a good time that it was a good ending to such a wonderful day. The entire event was such a great pleasure to plan and attend because so many people came out to enjoy the event and help out. I know this would never have happened without such a great group of Havanese Club members as well as a great group of Havanese people. This event was held only with good people that all attended and we had such a good time meeting all the Havanese people. We are a great bunch of people! This could not have been a success without all of you. It was great to meet you and we hope you enjoyed yourselves. See you next year!
Paula
